Smart Energy Monitoring and Management Solutions

GreenBox EMS solutions provide real-time visibility and control over solar generation, battery storage, grid import and load consumption.

ABOUT GREENBOX EMS

The intelligence layer that maximises your renewable energy investment

An Energy Management System is not just monitoring software — it is the control intelligence that determines whether your solar and battery investment delivers its full economic potential. Without an EMS, solar exports are uncontrolled, batteries charge and discharge without optimisation, and peak demand charges are unmanaged.

GreenBox EMS solutions integrate with solar inverters, battery systems, grid meters and building management systems — providing real-time monitoring, automated control, and compliance reporting. Designed for commercial and industrial facilities where energy costs, grid compliance, and sustainability reporting are critical.

Our EMS is built around the GB Gateway Meter — GreenBox’s own DIN-rail energy metering platform with integrated 4G — giving us full control over data acquisition reliability and communication performance.

Real-Time Generation Monitoring Live solar generation data with sub-5-minute resolution — visible from any browser or mobile device.

Battery State of Charge Management Automated battery charge/discharge control to maximise self-consumption and peak demand reduction.

Peak Demand Management Intelligent demand limiting prevents costly peak demand charges — the highest ROI feature for most C&I facilities.

Grid Export Control Hard and soft export limits to satisfy DNSP export management conditions — with full audit trail.

Load Shifting Automation Schedule high-consumption loads to align with solar generation peaks or low tariff periods.

Demand Response Participate in demand response programs by enabling automated load curtailment on utility signals.

Carbon Reporting Automated carbon reporting aligned with NGER, GHG Protocol and client sustainability KPIs.

API Integration (SCADA/BMS) Open API for integration with existing building management systems, SCADA platforms and ERP systems.

WHY GREENBOX EMS

Built by engineers who understand grid compliance

Integrated with GB Gateway Meter

GreenBox EMS is natively integrated with our own GB Gateway Meter — a DIN-rail energy meter with built-in 4G, providing reliable data acquisition without dependence on third-party hardware.

Supports All Major Inverter Brands

Our EMS platform integrates with SMA, Fronius, SolarEdge, ABB, Huawei, Growatt, Sungrow and other leading inverter brands via Modbus TCP, SunSpec and OCPP protocols.

Cloud + On-Premise Options

GreenBox EMS can be deployed cloud-hosted for remote access and minimal on-site hardware, or on-premise for clients with data sovereignty, latency or connectivity requirements.

DEPLOYMENT PROCESS

Eight-stage EMS deployment process

01

Energy Audit

Review of existing energy consumption data, tariff structure, solar and battery system details, and grid connection parameters to establish EMS baseline requirements.

02

System Requirements

Define EMS functional requirements — monitoring points, control objectives, export limits, demand targets, reporting requirements and integration interfaces.

03

EMS Design

EMS architecture design including hardware specification, network topology, communication protocols, control logic and HMI/dashboard layout.

04

Hardware Specification

Specification of all EMS hardware — GB Gateway Meters, communication modules, I/O interfaces, and any additional sensing or switching equipment.

05

Software Configuration

EMS platform configuration including monitoring dashboards, control algorithms, alert thresholds, reporting templates and user access levels.

06

Integration Testing

Factory acceptance testing of EMS configuration prior to site deployment — verifying all control functions, communications and reporting against requirements.

07

Commissioning

On-site EMS commissioning including hardware installation, live data verification, control function testing and DNSP export limit verification.

08

Training & Handover

On-site operator training, documentation handover, and a 30-day post-commissioning support period to ensure your team is fully confident with the system.

BENEFITS

What GreenBox EMS delivers for your facility

Reduce Energy Costs

Peak demand management, load shifting and battery optimisation typically deliver 15–40% reduction in grid energy costs for C&I facilities.

DNSP Compliance

Hard export control limits ensure your system never exceeds DNSP-approved export levels — with full data logging for compliance reporting.

Real-Time Visibility

Live dashboards give facilities managers, energy teams and executives clear visibility of energy performance — from any device, anywhere.

Sustainability Reporting

Automated carbon and renewable energy reporting supports your ESG obligations and client sustainability reporting requirements.

Battery Optimisation

Intelligent battery management maximises the economic value of your storage investment — optimising charge cycles against tariff structures.

BMS / SCADA Integration

Open API integration with your existing building management system or SCADA platform — no isolated energy island, no manual data export.

CASE STUDY

Manufacturing Facility — Victoria

CHALLENGE

A Victorian manufacturing facility with a 500kW rooftop solar array and 200kWh battery system required grid export control compliance with their Jemena DNSP connection conditions, combined with battery optimisation to reduce peak demand charges.

SOLUTION

GreenBox EMS was deployed with automated export control algorithms, battery charge/discharge optimisation against the facility’s time-of-use tariff structure, and a real-time monitoring dashboard providing energy visibility to the facility management team.

RESULT

34% reduction in total grid import. Zero DNSP export violations recorded across 12 months of operation.

COMMON QUESTIONS

EMS FAQs

Common questions about GreenBox EMS deployment and capabilities.
What inverter brands does the GreenBox EMS support?
GreenBox EMS supports integration with all major inverter brands via industry-standard protocols including Modbus TCP, SunSpec and RS485. Confirmed integrations include SMA, Fronius, SolarEdge, ABB, Huawei, Growatt, Sungrow, Goodwe, Sofar, and Victron. For specific models or brands not listed, contact us to confirm integration compatibility prior to project commencement.
Yes. Cloud-hosted GreenBox EMS deployments are accessible from any internet-connected browser or mobile device. On-premise deployments can be configured with VPN remote access for your operations team. All monitoring data is retained for a minimum of 12 months, with historical exports available for reporting and analysis.
GreenBox EMS is designed for resilience. The GB Gateway Meter includes local data buffering — storing up to 7 days of data locally if the cloud connection is interrupted. All control functions (export limiting, battery management) continue to operate using last-known configurations during communications loss. Upon reconnection, buffered data is automatically uploaded to restore complete data continuity.
Yes. GreenBox EMS provides open API endpoints (REST/JSON) and supports BACnet and Modbus TCP for integration with most BMS platforms including Schneider EcoStruxure, Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, and Honeywell platforms. We work with your BMS vendor or integrator to define the data exchange requirements and integration architecture.
Yes. Operator training is a standard component of every GreenBox EMS commissioning. Training covers system navigation, dashboard interpretation, alarm management, report generation and basic troubleshooting. We provide both on-site group training and written operator manuals. A 30-day post-commissioning support period is included for all EMS deployments.
GreenBox EMS is designed for minimal ongoing maintenance. Cloud-hosted deployments receive automatic software updates and are monitored by our team. Annual hardware inspection and calibration verification is recommended for metering equipment. We offer ongoing support and maintenance agreements for clients who prefer a fully managed service.
