PROJECT DELIVERY SUMMARY 2026
Balancing four generation sources against live site demand
This project involved the delivery of a DEIF-based power management and control system for a large agricultural facility in regional Victoria. The system was designed to automatically balance multiple power generation sources in response to changing electrical demand, improving power reliability and operational efficiency.
Using real-time load information from the site’s PLC, the DEIF control system independently regulates solar generation, two diesel generators, and grid power imports to maintain a stable and reliable power supply. The system also provides generation feedback to the PLC for coordinated site-wide operation.
The completed solution included the installation and configuration of six DEIF controllers: one at the grid connection point, two on the diesel generators, and three across the solar inverter systems. This architecture enables direct control of each generation source, accurate load sharing, and dependable overall system performance.
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
Six DEIF controllers, one coordinated system
Each generation source carries its own controller, so the power management system can dispatch or curtail it directly rather than relying on a single central point of control.
GENERATION SOURCES
PROJECT SCOPE
The project scope included
Installation and commissioning of DEIF controllers on the diesel generators.
Installation of a DEIF controller at the grid mains for monitoring and control of grid power.
Installation of DEIF controllers on the solar PV system.
Integration with the site's PLC to provide demand-based control of the grid, generators, and solar generation.
Verification of protection and communications using Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP.
ON SITE
Installation and commissioning
DEIF PM ID 1 — 1400 kVA genset controller
Cummins diesel generator under DEIF control
Commissioning DEIF PM ID 26 at the switchboard
SMA inverter hall — solar generation group
Inverters and main switchboard line-up
GreenBox switchboard line-up
Grid application for this site was completed in 2024 under PowerCor. The DEIF control system is nearing completion, and battery storage is under consideration for a future stage.
